- About Our Ingredients
Thanks so much for inquiring about our San Juan Seltzer products. We are thrilled to be the first local spiked sparkling water in the Pacific Northwest area and to be the only Zero Sugar/Zero Carb Spiked Sparkling Water in the market. We are also very proud of how pure and clean our ingredients are in each of our products. In this spirit, the beauty of San Juan Seltzer is found in the simplicity of its ingredients: filtered water, a kiss of select natural flavor extracts and fruit essences, natural organic acids commonly found in fruit and fermented foods (acetic and citric or malic), and alcohol derived from cane sugar through our own fermentation process. Nothing else! All the sugar is converted to alcohol during the fermentation process, and no sweeteners or colorants are added. No preservatives are needed, and none added. Simple and delicious!”
We hope this information addresses your questions and encourages you and your friends to give each of our PNW-inspired San Juan Seltzer flavors a try. As a young company, we wish we were in every retail outlet in the area. However, that takes time and support from great fans of our brand first. On our web site, www.sanjuanseltzer.com , there is a store locator of where we believe our products are available for sale now. If there isn’t a store listed near you, we would love for you to go to your favorite local store or bar/restaurant and ask the manager or the beer/wine products if they would bring your favorite flavors of San Juan seltzer products in for you and for other consumers in the area. That would really help us a lot!

- Do you use a sweetener in your San Juan Seltzer Flavors?
The beauty of San Juan Seltzer is found in the simplicity of its ingredients: filtered water, a kiss of select natural flavor extracts and fruit essences, natural organic acids commonly found in fruit and fermented foods (acetic and citric or malic), and alcohol derived from cane sugar through our own fermentation process. All the sugar is converted to alcohol, and no sweeteners or colorants are added. No preservatives are needed, and none added. Simple and delicious!
- Where do the 85 calories come from?
Thanks so much for inquiring about San Juan Seltzer. We hope you have tried each of our 4 delicious Pacific Northwest inspired flavors and are enjoying them. Either way, you are not alone in your question around where the 85 calories come from.
Here is the short answer. All of the calories come exclusively from the alcohol that is in our San Juan Seltzer products. If it helps, during each of our small batch fermentations, the yeast we use consumes all of the sugars. The result is a super pure and clean alcohol base that is totally void of any sugar and/or carbs, and tastes like a high-end vodka soda. There are no other residual sugars or carbs added to or used in any of our products. However, there are 85 calories in the 4.2% alcohol by volume base in each of our products. At this level, we are the only known zero carb and zero sugar spiked sparkling water on the market because we do not add back any juice based and/or other sugars in to our products post-fermentation. We are proud of this achievement and we are proud to be the lowest calorie product at just 85 calories per 12 ounce can.
- Are your products really gluten free because I have celiac disease?
Just prior to producing our first batch (cans with “code 0002” printed on the bottom of them) of product, we were incorrectly advised, to be legally compliant, our products needed to be fermented using hops and/or barley. As such, we included the smallest possible ”speck” (literally less than what can be placed on the head of a pin) of malted barley as part of a multi-thousand gallon fermentation. Post fermentation, we ran the entire batch through a special micro-filter for the purpose of eliminating any/all remaining gluten. Therefore, we do believe our products are in fact Gluten Free and compliant. That stated, if you have any doubts or concerns about whether this first batch of our products is safe for you, we suggest that you avoid consuming any cans with “code 0002” on the bottom of them.
After our first production batch, we learned that we did not have to add any hops or malted barley to our products. As a result, we stopped adding ANY malted barley to our products in all subsequent batches (all cans with “code 0003” or higher printed on the bottom of them) despite what the packaging say. As mentioned above, we are a small start-up that cannot afford to waste or throw away packaging materials. So, we have elected to use them until they run out despite the fact that “Malted Barley” is still printed on them. Once the original packaging is gone, our products will reflect the change. In advance of that new packaging hitting the market, please be assured that all of our batches made after that initial batch Code 0002 is made without any Malted Barley and/or any ingredients containing gluten.
We appreciate your taking the trouble to bring this matter to our attention, and hope that you will enjoy our Batch 0003 and higher rounds of completely malt-free spiked waters! Please feel free to contact us at any time.
